I once said to my friend that I would forgo a car and the latest in technology if it means getting myself a house. It's a stretch, I know. It's one seriously big delayed gratification. I personally prefer a daily commute (although I have been cabbing lately) than a drive because 1) I like observing surroundings and daydreaming and mostly sleeping, 2) buses and trucks scare the syet out of me 3) gas prices are sky high. Call me regressive, but I am quite content with my 3/4"-thick mobile and 1 1/2" screen. As for my future house, I don't want no whiplashes but not even Zen. I want it perfect, I want it worth the wait.
So come ten years from now, remind me to look back at this post as I lay out my floor space on paper. First, I want wood. I can live with laminates, as long as I feel I'm not killing a hundred-year-old tree for my vanity's sake. While looking at our interiors last night, I realized we never should have sanded and painted on our stained wood walls and cabinetry. The color used to be rich and bold and inviting. Then again, that would mean exposing our artwork, also known as Pentel Pen on wood.
No garden gnomes, creepy grottoes (sorry), stained glass windows and vine wrought iron. Definitely none of that gilded shit and mismatched chairs, or peach-y one-dimensional wall treatments. None of it. And I don't want my house to look too perfect or clean or symmetrical it's practically a hospital - I want it to look "lived in". Like somebody actually lives in the house and does not leave lemons on the coffee table for show. Or if I did put lemons on my coffee table, I'm sure I would be using them........ or maybe not because I hate lemons. Hm.
I want solid colored sheets, and not just in white. Any color imaginable, just as long as its solid colored. No flowers, borders or heaven forbid, cartoon heroes. I'm not sure if someone sells those, but we can always have them tailor-made.My drinking glasses will be generic. Tall, straight. Like good men. No fancy colors, unnecessary bulging, and rough floral prints. Even better, I think, is this on the left:
Also, white sofa. Or cobalt blue. I think I just died. No metal legs for me. I wouldn't mind Rococo chairs, just be in the purest white they can get. But this is nice. Matches the dining table above. I'm just not sure that's a good thing.
I admire Kenneth Cobonpue's work but I think it's a hassle to clean. Holes, anyone? Also, I think I want a deck. But how do people take care of outdoor furniture and wood flooring in a tropical country like this? I hate to think about rainy seasons and cleaning. In as much the same way I am confused about its maintenance, I am also puzzled by how well some cooking shows maintain their cutting boards. Or are they replaced every time? I'm amazed by how much wood has filled this blog post. Snore.
